American Legion Post 60 Arlington Texas

American Legion Post 60 Newsletter December 2019

MESSAGE FROM THE COMMANDER

I would like to encourage you to renew your membership online at www.legion.org/renew, it's easy, fast and secure; it saves us both paper work and the price of a stamp. John Straten will have the cards at the meetings if you prefer to renew then or you can mail them to the address on the renewal notice. Have you considered being a Paid Up For Life (PUFL) Member? Check it out and see if that works for you. Post 60 has a few events during the month of December. We encourage you to help and if you cannot help, attend events and support fundraising. It all goes to Veteran causes. We take care of our own. We have a Veteran in need. This Veteran has four children of which only two are currently living with her. Post 60 has given her a stipend of $100 yet that is only a small fraction of her needs. She has been approved for an apartment in the Arlington area yet has no furniture or the essentials for moving into a new home. If anyone has or knows of anyone that has items they can donate (food, kitchen table and chairs, sofa bed or regular bed) or would like to contribute to her cause please contact our Service Officer John Header at the Post 60 number 682 410-3410 or at post60arl.americanlegion@gmail.com. Mr. Header will coordinate delivery arrangements if anyone has anything to contribute. Thank you in advance for your consideration. Flu Shots at Walgreens for those Registered with Veteran Affairs

VA Retail Immunization Care Coordination Program During flu season, protecting your health with a flu shot is easier than ever — and as close as your local VA or neighborhood Walgreens! VA and Walgreens care about your health and are partnering to offer enrolled Veteran patients easy access to flu shots. VA and Walgreens are national partners, providing no-cost quadrivalent flu shots to enrolled Veterans of the VA health care system. During the program, which runs from August 15, 2019 through March 31, 2020, enrolled Veteran patients nationwide have the option of getting their flu shot at any of Walgreens’ 8,200 locations in addition to their local VA health care facilities. No appointment is required; simply go to any Walgreens, tell the pharmacist you receive care at a VA facility, and show your Veterans Health Identification Card and another form of photo ID.* Your immunization record will be updated electronically in your local VA electronic health record. Walgreens has the capability to electronically send vaccination information to the VA electronic health record. The VA-Walgreens national partnership is part of VA’s eHealth Exchange project. This national program ensured that many Veterans got their no-cost flu shot at their local Walgreens, satisfying their wellness reminder because they either found it more convenient or did not have a scheduled appointment at a local VA health care facility. See the link below for further information https://www.va.gov/communitycare/programs/veterans/immunization.asp We are located at 601 W Pioneer Pkwy Arlington, TX 76010. The ELKS Lodge #2114 has agreed to sponsor our post at their Lodge. As a non-member of the ELKS, you will need to be signed in as a guest. We will have a member of the ELKS there to sign you in. On meeting nights, the last Thursday of the month at 7:00 pm, you can sign yourself in, just enter your name and Post 60. We hope that this will enable our post to grow and prosper. Michael Rogalsky Commander, Post 60
